December is the month when you need your wardrobe to work that bit harder to stand up to all the events from Christmas parties and meals out to Midnight Mass in your local often chilly church, to entertaining at home and the odd brisk country walk with the family to walk off the Christmas pudding.
A few key pieces are what you need to see you through the festive season this year. A must have for the Christmas parties is a dress; dresses are so on trend at the moment that there is a colour and style to suit every one. Always consider your body shape when purchasing a dress and always select the most flattering colour to suit your skin tone. This is full on colour, head to toe!
Colour is definitely there to be seen in; it is the season’s strongest statement following on from the Summers Neon Brights Story. There are vibrant purples, pinks, reds and blues. The trend is “Colour Block” matching the dress with the shoes and the handbag and for those real trendsetters matching coloured opaque tights. For those who shy away from colour there really is an ideal shade for you in purple, pink, red and blue.
If you still cannot be persuaded, black is back. Forever the fashion staple, black is the ultimate. When we are talking of little black dresses, there is a shape, length and texture for everyone. Always easy to accessorize with a bit of glitz at Christmas; add colour in your jewellery if black is not your best shade.
Metallics have not lost their shine, shimmering on for another season with anthracite and bronze adding a more subtle feel on gold and silver. For those who like their dress to be their accessories too there are lavish embellished dresses drenched with sequins and glitz.
Knitwear is more key than ever this season and still on the theme of dresses, there are lots of knitted dresses from fine gauge to real chunky knits. The real beauty of these is that you can really dress them up or down. They look great with opaque tights and boots or worn over jeans and offer a comfortable outfit when entertaining at home. There are lots of chunky cardigans in all shapes and sizes which make a great alternative from a coat and a real cosy wrap for a brisk walk in the country after your Christmas dinner or an ideal choice for Midnight Mass. For additional warmth wrap up in the lovely scarves and berry style woollen hats which are around in an array of different colours.
Trousers have moved on to a flattering wider leg look which work fabulously from classic day wear to evening wear if you have to go straight from the office to a Christmas function. Wear with a jersey top or shirt in the day and then just change into a dressier top or add some jewellery for evening glamour.
For those who prefer skirts the skirt suit is strong this season with a skirt shape to suit everyone from straight, pencil to full skirted worn with a belt cinched in at the waist to give real 40’s glamour and finished with Mary Jane shoes or boots.
Shoes and accessories are all about clutch bags, patent accessories, belts, bangles and boots. The clutch bag offers the finishing touch to your Christmas outfit. The shoe boot is the Fashionista’s favourite but without model proportions the knee high boot cannot be beaten and is available in all heel heights through to the more practical hiking boots for those determined to get out doors this season.
