Looking cool...Looking hot
Looking cool...Looking hot

YOU FINALLY reach your holiday destination and despite planning your get away months ago you seem to have encountered just about every hitch before getting away. All the hassles and flight delays are now behind you and you have unpacked, spent a few hours by the pool and acquainted yourself with the surroundings.

Now it’s time to get ready for an evening out, to sample the local cuisine and see what the night life of your resort has to offer. You don’t want to have to spend hours getting ready; in terms of holiday looks less really is more, the temperatures and humidity are high so make-up should be lighter than you would normally wear at home.

Your skin type will change in the summer months and will definitely produce more oil in a hotter climate. So you may want to use a lighter moisturiser than usual, such as a lotion or gel instead of a cream. Foundations can be lighter too, tinted moisturisers are ideal, and there are some fabulous ones to choose from, many having SPF protection factors. You can also thin out your normal foundation with a touch of moisturiser mixed in. For those with oilier skins, an oil-free foundation is the order of the day. There are also a few spray foundations around that will give a light coverage in a couple of mists and which are great for those in a hurry. An increasingly popular product is the latest mineral powder which is not only good for your skin, but which also give a light, natural dusting to even-out your complexion without the dryness of normal powders – fantastic for your holiday.

A light touch of blusher is all that is needed and there are some fabulous bronzers to give you that sun-kissed look at this time of year. Eye make-up should be lighter and powders will stay put better than the creamier versions. Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are good products for warmer times. A slick of lip gloss completes the look and there are many tinted lip balms which double up as a lip protector and gloss in one. In terms of hair, you will want to spend less time under a hot hairdryer than normal. Hotel dryers are never that fast and it is often worth packing your own, even if it is the travel version. Don’t forget to use protection factors for your hair in the day and cover up with a hat as holidays can wreak havoc with the best conditioned hair. Always get a hair cut before you go away to get rid of any dry ends.

When on holiday, try some lower maintenance looks, if your hair is long; rough dry with your hairdryer and tie up; there are some gorgeous hair accessories for long hair from hair clips to flower bands. Head bands are a real must which look great when long hair is put up and high on the crown and fabulous on shorter, sleeker, bobbed styles. Wear your hair down and dried naturally, or dried setting any natural wave in place for a real beach babe look. If you can’t do without the straighteners ensure you use a product such as a serum to protect the hair first. Now get that holiday outfit on and see what the town has to offer!
