Whilst some brides have the picture of their perfect Wedding Dress firmly engrained in their minds, for many brides finding the perfect dress is a more challenging prospect. There is such a vast amount of choice that the challenge is where should you actually start. The dress has to be the right style to flatter your figure and the right shade or colour to compliment your skin tone.
The starting point should be to consider the shape of dress which will work best for you accentuating your good points whilst drawing the eye away from any problem areas. There are several shapes of bridal dresses to choose from. There is the classic A-line silhouette; a very flattering, shape for many figures, this style flares gently from the underarm through the length of the dress, similarly flattering but more dramatic is the Princess style. By contrast there is the Column Dress which is a more fitted style which is less forgiving so best for those with slimmer proportions or a more athletic build. Then there is the Empire Line with the high waistline just above the bust which is flattering on those with concerns about their tummies. There are also Ballerina or Ball Gown styles and dresses with added interest such as the Fish Tail style which is often cut on the bias or the Bustle with fullness at the back of the dress.
Your choice of dress will somewhat dictate the style of skirt, there will be further choice within these dresses as to the style of neckline or bodice. There is a neckline to suit all brides out there from Scoop Necks, Boat Necks, Halter Necks, Strapless, Strappy, Sweetheart and High Neck to name but a few.
The time of year you are getting married, the venue and any themes you have in mind will be important factors when selecting the dress. Seasonal trends and fashions influence bridal wear with Spring Summer 2007 seeing influence from the Romance story with ruffles in evidence and full skirts, both creating big impact. Lace is seen as pretty and modern and there are Floaty Chiffon styles abound. The Body Conscious trend of fitted styles brings Slinky silhouettes and the Shiny trend influences a look of glamorous satin fabrics. There is always the opportunity with bridal wear to take inspiration from past decades with the current renaissance in Retro looks. The 60’s look has inspired shorter baby doll styles for those more adventurous.
The choice of colours to choose from is more exciting than ever with 2007 seeing reds, pretty pinks, powder blues, lilacs, golds through to deep aubergine. Whereas years gone by the choice was whether to wear ivory, cream or white with more second time weddings and civil ceremonies and the influence of Asian weddings where the flamboyance of colour has always been prominent, choice has grown enormously.
So whether your ideal dress is the traditional classic in style and colour or something more modern and quirky there is a dress to express your own unique style.
